Varouj Nerguizian

CEO, Bank of Sharjah

Varouj Nerguizian is the Executive Director and General Manager of Bank of Sharjah-UAE and the Chairman and General Manager of Emirates Lebanon Bank- Lebanon. He serves as Executive Chairman of BOS Real Estate LLC, BOS Capital LLC, Borealis LLC and EL Capital LLC. He is a Board Member and Chairman of the Audit & Compliance Committee of Dana Gas and a Board member of Growthgate Capital LLC.

He is the Chairman of the Lebanese Educational Fund SA and a Director of Lycée Libanais Francophone Privé; Board Member of Pearl Initiative;  Member of the Conseil Stratégique de l’ Université Saint Joseph- Lebanon, and  member of the Board of Trustees of the American University of Sharjah.

Nerguizian graduated from Univeristé St. Joseph - Lebanon (University of Lyon Lumière- France) in Economics.

He started his career with Bank G. Trad- Credit Lyonnais Beirut, followed by a move to Bank of Sharjah in the UAE in 1977, an affiliate of Banque Paribas. Nerguizian was appointed as General Manager of Bank of Sharjah in 1992.

To date, Nerguizian is still leading Bank of Sharjah and was instrumental in the growth of the Bank, its success and its promotion not only in the UAE but in the region. 

Nerguizian – after serving as member of the board of trustees of Lycée Georges Pompidou in Sharjah for 12 years, of which four years as Chairman, – led in 2003 a team that established the Lebanese Educational Fund SA and the Lycée Libanais Francophone Privé in Dubai, a nonprofit private school that serves the needs of the Lebanese and Francophone Communities in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.  LLFP entered into an academic cooperation agreement with College Notre Dame de Jamhour in 2009, and is accredited by AEFE.

Besides his professional life, Nerguizian is actively involved in, and a prominent figure of, the Lebanese, French, and Armenian communities.
In 1996, Nerguizian was discerned the Insignia of the Knight of the Order of Merit (Chevalier Dans L’ordre National du Merite) by the Republic of France for his contributions to the interests of France in the UAE.

In 1999, Nerguizian was discerned the Insignia of the Knight of the Holy See of Cilicia, by the Armenian Apostolic Church Lebanon for his efforts in leading the team that built the Armenian Church in Sharjah, UAE.

In 2004, Nerguizian was discerned the Insignia of the Knight of the Order of “Mekhitar Heratsi” by the Republic of Armenia for his efforts in leading the team that built the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Abu Dhabi, followed upon completion of the Embassy in 2007 by the Insignia of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia.

In 2010, Nerguizian was discerned the Insignia of the Knight of the Order of Saint Gregory the Illuminator from the Armenian Catholic Church for his contributions to the community in Lebanon.

In 2013, Nerguizian was discerned the Insignia of The Knight of the Order of Saint Gregory the Great by His Holiness Pope Benedictus XVI for his contributions to the Catholic Church.

In 2013, Nerguizian was discerned the Insignia of the Order of Saint Nersès-Chenorhali (The Gracious) by the Holy See of Etchmiadzin in Armenia for his leadership in coordinating the renovation of the Haghardzin Complex of Churches, undertaken by the Armenian Apostolic Church – Armenia with the financial contribution of His Highness Doctor Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
